White House Announces that Healthcare.gov will Take Sundays Off
In what critics are calling a deliberate undermining of the Affordable Care Act, the White House announced on Friday that the Department of Health and Human Services will shut down healthcare.gov half of each Sunday during the health insurance enrollment period, minus the last one on December 10.
Even without the shutdown, potential enrollees were already going to face new challenges this year. HHS has shortened the enrollment period from November 1 to December 15, less than half the time allowed in previous years. Budget cuts to both the program’s marketing and enrollment assistance partners were also announced.
Oregon is one of dozens of states that rely on the federal exchange for health insurance enrollment under the Affordable Care Act.
