Trump Continues Assault on Obamacare
Through Executive Order, the President dealt several blows to the Affordable Care Act last week. The move signals that the White House will no longer wait for Congress to replace and repeal. “With Congress the way it is, I decided to take it upon myself,” Trump said in remarks at the White House earlier in the week.
Critics of the order charge that it will destabilize insurance markets and drastically increase premiums, especially for those with low incomes. That is because it will eliminate Cost Sharing Payments to individuals most in need, possibly leading many to drop their coverage altogether.
Seventeen state Attorney Generals immediately filed suit, seeking a court order that the $7 billion in payments must be continued. The White House contends that the payments themselves are illegal.
